ROLLING stock leasing company Beacon Rail has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract to supply 10 Vectron locomotives, taking its total fleet to 170.

The 6.4MW, 160km/h locomotives will be manufactured at Siemens Allach plant near Munich. They will be equipped with ETCS Level 2 Baseline 3 as well as the required national train control systems used on the Rhine-Alpine corridor between the North Sea and European hinterland where Beacon plans to deploy the locomotives.

“Beacon Rail is delighted that, following its recent acquisition of Mitsui Rail Capital Europe, it has ordered 10 additional Vectron locomotives to support the company’s commitment to the European four-axle electric rail freight and passenger markets,” says Mr Adam Cunliffe, CEO of Beacon Rail.

Siemens has sold more than 1850 Vectrons since the locomotive platform was launched in 2010 with the locomotive approved for operation in 20 European countries.
