The one-directional high-floor LRVs are equipped with LED lighting, open gangways, air-conditioning, digital passenger information systems and multipurpose areas for wheelchairs, bikes or prams.

The order follows the purchase of 20 28m-long Flexity LRVs of this type by KVB in 2015, under a shared €64m contract with Düsseldorf operator Rheinbahn, which also included options for up to 16 additional vehicles.

The first two vehicles from this order arrived in Cologne in late 2020 and will now begin testing on the network. KVB also operates 267 older Flexity LRVs. The new Flexity fleet will replace Cologne’s ageing Stadtbahnwagen B trams, and the full fleet is scheduled for delivery by the end of the year.
