Ridership increased to more than 6.5 million, while revenues soared 53% to NKr 899m ($US 149m) with pre-tax profits of NKr 229m. Flytoget operated 20% of mainline train services in Norway in 2013.

A fleet of eight new 220km/h trains will be ordered at a cost of NKr 1.5bn to supplement the existing fleet, which has been in operation for 17 years. The first set will be ready for testing in August 2016, and delivery will coincide with the opening of the new Terminal 2 at Gardemoen Airport. The trains will seat a minimum of 236 passengers and will need to meet requirements for carrying passengers with disabilities.

Flytoget will hold a supplier forum for prospective bidders on March 20 and the contract is due to be signed in December.

Flytoget anticipates annual ridership growth of 3.4% from 2017 as airlines increase their capacity at peak times by using more gates and larger aircraft.
