Growth was strongest in the Cercanías (suburban) and Media Distancia (regional) segement, which saw ridership increase 8% to 123.3 million. Passenger numbers on the Madrid Cercanías network climbed 10.1% to 68.1 million, while Rodalies suburban services in Barcelona carried 29.7 million passengers, a 7.3% year-on-year increase.
Ridership on Ave long-distance high-speed services rose by 3.9% to 5.13 million, with passenger numbers on Avant regional high-speed services increasing 3.5% to 2.17 million.
