SPANISH national operator Renfe has announced a €164.1m investment in its ticket sales and reservation system.

The operator has awarded two contracts to support the work. The first awarded to a joint venture of Accenture and Evolutio Cloud Enable is worth €78.6m and covers the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the new Renfe ticket sales and reservation system. The second contract worth €85.5m is awarded to Sqills Products and covers the implementation, configuration and operation of a passenger service system.

Renfe says the objective of the project is to develop and introduce new technologies that support cloud-based sales channels available over the internet as well as sales at ticket offices, travel agencies, ticket vending machines (TVMs), and from train conductors. The system should also provide access for the customer to rail services as well as related amenities such as business or first-class lounge access.

The new sales system will guarantee functionality and scalability, and comply with European standards. It will also support integration with other applications, including those developed by third parties. In addition, Renfe says complementary modules will be developed to provide specific Renfe services and applications not included in the PSS, such as user login, private areas for customers, refunds and fraud prevention, documentation and issuing invoices.

Renfe adds that its website is the sales channel that will undergo the biggest change, “resulting in a significant improvement to the service offered to passengers.” The site currently has 5.6 million unique users and receives 11.5 million visits per month.
