ETIHAD Rail has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Spanish national operator Renfe, High Speed 1 Ltd (HS1), the operator of the high-speed line between London and the Channel Tunnel, and British freight operator GB Railfreight (GBRf).

The MoUs were signed on the second day of the Middle East Rail event, hosted this week by Etihad Rail in Abu Dhabi.

The MoUs provide for exchanging knowledge, expertise, and best practice in passenger and freight operations, which should benefit Etihad Railways as it takes forward the National Railways Programme in the United Arab Emirates.

Specific topics covered by new agreements include the planning, design, development and commissioning of railway projects, as well as maintenance.

The agreements were signed by Mr Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, with Mr Juan Matías, senior manager of international business at Renfe, HS1 CEO, Ms Dyan Crowther, and GBRf CEO, Mr John Smith.

“Etihad Rail is committed to achieving the goals of the National Railways Programme and completing the Etihad Rail project on schedule,” Malak says. “We are constantly working to sign agreements and build partnerships to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the National Rail Network.”
