The objective of the test was to survey and check the overhead electrification including finding possible gaps.

The first section of 57km A1 link opened on September 25 2018 between Jerusalem Navon and Ben Gurion Airport. IR says it plans to start full operation of the new line towards the end of this year.

IR ordered 62 Traxx 25kV ac locomotives from Bombardier under a Shekels 1bn ($US 283m) contract signed in October 2015.

“The test is an important achievement as part of the national railway network electrification project, which comes after many efforts and intensive work,” says IR’s general manager, Mr Michael (Micha) Maiksner.
