The fire, which injured 11 people, broke out on the top floor of Jeddah station on September 29 and lasted for 15 hours. Fire protection systems prevented the fire from spreading to the lower floors, the tracks and control and operating equipment.

The government has ordered enquires to be held to discover the cause the fire, and the findings will be presented to King Salman.

Dr Nabil Al-Amoudi, Saudi Arabia’s minister of transport and chairman of Saudi Railways Company (SAR), said on October 1 that services are expected to resume within 30 days. Trains will call at Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) station and will run through Jeddah station without stopping until repairs have been completed.
