The RailPack 400DM comprises a Voith diesel engine and mechanical transmission system. The engine has a power output of up to 480kW and a maximum torque of 2800Nm to enable the trains to operate at a maximum speed of 145km/h.

The engine is fitted with an exhaust aftertreatment system, enabling it to meet the European Stage V emission standard, which comes into effect in 2021.

The mechanical transmission is based on Voith’s DiwaRail system and is designed to reduce consumption. Voith says this new transmission system will be available as a single product next year.
