The new facility has created 63 new jobs and is suitable for all train types. A total of 1148 bogies will be overhauled by March 2016.

During the overhaul process bogies are washed and stripped, frames are checked and repainted, and wheelsets, gearboxes, drop links and yaw dampers and other associated components are refurbished or changed. The bogies are then reassembled and tested before being fitted to a train.

Mr Terence Watson, Alstom UK president, says: "This new workshop has been specially developed as a result of Alstom's experience from the overhauls the company has carried out over 20 years and is designed to optimise mileage between overhauls and increase fleet availability."
