Alstom won the €450m contract for the trains in November 2012 with options for another 20 trains and to carry out maintenance.

The five-car articulated emus have a low floor apart from at the extremities of each set. They have a maximum speed of 160km/h and will operate on lines electrified at 3kV dc. The trains only have second-class accommodation with a two-plus-two seating arrangement as they are destined for regional services.

The first train is due to be delivered to Trenitalia in January 2014 and delivery will continue at the rate of four trains per month.
