Line 3 will be 25km long with 22 stations and will connect Qingdao's main station with Qingdao North. Trains will operate at 2-minute headways and a maximum speed of 80km/h. The line is due to open in December 2014.

QINGDAO Metro, China, has placed a Euros 26m contract with Alstom and its Chinese joint venture Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment for Optonix traction equipment to power 144 cars being built by CSR Sifang for Line 3. Optonix is designed for the Chinese market and is fitted to trains operating on Line 13 of the Beijing metro.
