The company operates depots at Blerick near Venlo and Leeuwarden, which largely focus on the maintenance of Stadler GTW dmus operated by Arriva Netherlands, Veolia Transport Netherlands and Connexxion. A third depot at Nieuwegein services trams owned by Utrecht regional transport authority BRU, which are used on the Utrecht- Nieuwegein fast tram line.

VRS generates revenues of around €20m per year and will continue to maintain trains under existing contracts, although the company will be rebranded Stadler Rail Netherlands.

Stadler Rail says that the purchase supports its strategy to expand its train maintenance business.
