The project will cover 105km of the high-speed network and 116km of conventional line. The future high-speed line will connect Valencia with the Albacete - Alicante high-speed line at La Encina while also providing a link with Murcia.

The project involves installing ETCS level 2 and automatic train protection (ATO) on the section of high-speed line. New interlocking systems will be installed on the line to safeguard traffic control. Thales will also deploy telecommunications networks to support the signalling and train protection systems, along with safety systems based on CCTV and access control for equipment buildings.

The parallel conventional line will benefit from the installation of ETCS Level 1.

The line currently carries around 55% of rail freight transported in Spain.
