The airport currently serves more than 45 million passengers, and this is expected to grow to up to 86 million passengers per year with the opening of Terminal 3. The mass transit system will provide access to the terminal for both current and future passengers.

Earlier this year, the target date to complete the terminal was pushed back from 2020 to 2023, with the opening scheduled for 2024, but those dates no longer look feasible.

Siemens will provide the signalling system, which will include CBTC to allow automatic train operation (ATO). Two stations, with an option for a third, will be equipped along with 20 trains. The first station will be commissioned in September 2022 while the second is planned for June 2024.

ST Engineering’s Electronics sector will provide its smart rail electronics solutions including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), platform screen doors, maintenance management system as well as an integrated suite of communication systems. BES Engineering will provide the power supply system.

Siemens is also providing CBTC to automate the Taoyuan City metro, including the link to Taoyuan International Airport and the Green Line, which includes 27.8km with 21 stations.
