THALES and local partner River Engineering have successfully completed a project to install ETCS Level 1 on four lines totalling 321km and serving 48 stations in the Bangkok area.

Automatic train protection (ATP) is now functioning on State Railway of Thailand’s (SRT) Northern, North Eastern, Eastern and Soutern lines, stretching from Lop Büro in the north to Nakhon Pathom in the south and Map Kabao in the northeast. The lines are used by more than 130,000 people every day.

The 123km Hua Mak - Laem Chabang section with 14 stations is the longest single stretch where ETCS Level 1 has been installed.

Thales technicians from Thailand, Austria and Bulgaria worked with joint venture partner River Engineering on the project, which comprised the design, supply and installation of the ETCS Level 1 trackside equipment. The project involved the installation of more than 1000 Lineside Electronic Units and over 3000 balises.
