The collision was between a Pzemysl - Warsaw train and a Warsaw - Krakow train which were travelling in opposite directions on the same track during a period of single-track working. The other track on the line had been temporarily closed for engineering works.
This is believed to be Poland's worst train crash for more than 20 years.
