VTG Rail, a subsidiary of VTG, Germany, has acquired SC Leasing, United States, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation of America, and its 2000 freight wagons, doubling VTG Rail's North American customer base.

VTG Rail, formerly known as Texas Railcar Leasing, which VTG purchased in 2008, will incorporate all of SC Leasing's business and staff.

The company says the purchase provides a platform for further expansion in the North American market and is part of its strategy to promote controlled growth following the purchase of 300 tank cars from Sogerent, Italy, and 870 wagons from Railcraft, Russia, in 2011.

SC Leasing's 2000 wagons are used for the transport of agricultural products, coal, salt and other minerals.
