ROLLING road trains began operating in Romania on February 10 with the launch of a trial service on the Tertici Curtici - Simeria - Petroşani - Craiova corridor.

The project is a joint initiative between the Ministry of Transport, rail freight operator CFR Marfă and passenger operator CFR Călători.

The train carried eight lorries over the 400km route, but achieved an average speed of just 17km/h, with a journey time of nearly 12 hours due to lengthy stops en route.
