The 4.2km extension was originally scheduled for completion in 2019, but construction has been brought forward with the aim of completing the project by late 2016.
The $US 192m extension includes one intermediate station at Camp Wisdom Road together with the reconstruction of the current terminus at Ledbetter to improve the flow of pedestrian and bus traffic around the station.
The completion of the extension to UNT will take the Dallas light rail network to 150km.
