Wiener Linien awarded Bombardier a €431m contract in June 2015 to supply 119 vehicles and maintain the fleet for 24 years. The contract includes an option to supply and maintain a further 37 vehicles.
The 34m-long five-section vehicles will accommodate up to 211 passengers. The interior layout has been developed in consultation with disability groups and accessibility will be improved with an entry floor height of 215mm and two wheelchair spaces with adjacent seats for accompanying passengers. The trams will also accommodate up to eight pushchairs and there will be parent-and-child seating areas.
Testing of the first vehicles is due to begin in early 2018 and following acceptance by Wiener Linien the fleet will enter revenue service from late-2018 onwards.
The fleet will be maintained at Wiener Linien depots and Bombardier will employ its FlexCare maintenance management system which is designed for integration into existing maintenance processes.
