UP will feature the locomotive in its Denver Post Cheyenne Frontier Days event which is part of its 150th anniversary celebrations taking place this year. The Evolution Series is GE's most successful global locomotive platform with units now operating in North and South America, Australia, Africa and Asia.
The Evolution Series is built around GE's 12-cylinder diesel engine which GE says generates higher output than its 16-cylinder predecessor and lower fuel consumption. A 16-cylinder high-powered variant is also in the range, offering an output of 4.47MW.
