THE first of 10 new coaches ordered by Czech open-access operator RegioJet from Astra Vagoane Calaroti, Romania, is currently undergoing testing between Prague and Žilina, Slovakia.

The 200km/h standard class coaches offer 80 seats and features back-of-seat touch-screen multimedia monitors. They are also equipped with passenger WiFi. While RegioJet is a Czech-based company, vehicle registration took place in Austria. Following the conclusion of tests, the coach will return to Romania for final adjustments.

RegioJet is looking to expand, especially in Slovakia, with an entirely new service planned between Bratislava and Košice. For this service RegioJet will use three bi-voltage Belgian National Railways (SNCB) class 12 locomotives which utilise both 3kV dc and 25kV ac. RegioJet is also planning to introduce a direct Košice - Prague service.
