IRJ - live at the UITP Congress in Vienna. Bombardier unveiled its new-generation low-floor LRV, the Flexity 2, at the UITP World Congress in Vienna today. Flexity 2 is a development of Bombardier´s successful Flexity LRV and incorporates a number of significant advances over its predecessor, including the Flexx Urban 3000 bogie, which allows the LRV to run on conventional wheelsets. The vehicle also features a redesigned cab and enhanced impact protection elements. This has resulted in a slight increase in axleload, although Bombardier says this does not limit the operational capabilities of the vehicle.

The first customer for Flexity 2 is likely to be Blackpool, England, and Bombardier has been selected as preferred supplier for the contract to supply 16 LRVs, which will be delivered in 2011. The contract is expected to be signed by the end of this month.
