FRENCH Rail Network (RFF) has awarded a consortium headed by Systra a contract for infrastructure project management on the 12km, five-station Sartrouville - Epinay-sur-Seine section of the new 28km Tangentielle Nord line, a tram-train line that will link the northern suburbs of Paris.

As part of the contract, Systra, along with Setec and architects Attica, will be responsible for rail infrastructure management, establishing links to neighbouring transport networks from the double-track line, as well as coordinating general organisation, costs and deadlines. Specific tasks include ensuring the line is suitable for high volumes of passenger traffic with tram-trains set to run at five minute headways at peak times, improving the environment for residents living close to the line, and to allow sufficient capacity for freight trains using the existing Grand Belt freight line which runs parallel to the new route.

Scheduled to open in 2018, Tangentielle Nord will serve 15 suburbs reducing journey times between Satrouville and Noisy-le-Sec to 35 minutes. The entire project, not including rolling stock, is estimated to cost Euros 1 billion.
