Italy's new government has only been in office since November 2011 but already it is planning sweeping changes to the country's bloated public sector, as it seeks to liberalise the economy and cut its massive debt while at the same time kick-starting growth.
FRENCH transport minister Mr Thierry Mariani met Italy's deputy infrastructure and transport minister Mr Mario Ciaccia in Rome on January 30 to sign a new agreement on the construction of a new railway and base tunnel between Lyon and Turin.
GERMAN Rail (DB) has decided to relinquish its 10% holding in Thalys which operates 300km/h services from Paris to Brussels, Cologne and Amsterdam.
