The order is the third from a framework agreement signed in 2017 for up to 146 Urbos 100 LRVs, following two orders for 24 LRVs signed in 2017.

The first 48 vehicles will be commissioned for revenue service next year on the metre-gauge Coastal Tram line from De Panne to Knokke, while the third batch of trams will be delivered during the second half of 2022 for services in Antwerp.

De Lijn awarded CAF the contract following an appeal by Bombardier and subsequent re-evaluation of the bids.
