DSB says the new vehicles will primarily be used on cross-border services to Hamburg, operating with its recently-ordered Siemens Vectron electric locomotives, and will enable it to reduce its dependence on the troubled IC4 DMUs.

The initial order will comprise eight sets of coaches, with each set seating at least 440 passengers.

Shortlisted bidders will submit initial offers by the end of January and DSB expects to receive final bids by mid-2019, with the vehicles entering service in 2022.

The winning bidder will supply spare parts for the fleet for a minimum of 16 years, with an optional 14-year extension.
