The trains will be 100m long and will have a maximum speed of 160km/h. The tender includes an option for maintenance and for some 75m-long trains.

Bids must be submitted by December 23, and delivery is due to begin in the first quarter of 2022.

ÖBB announced plans to purchase 39 single-deck EMUs in January, including 11 75m-long sets and 28 100m-long sets, following a market investigation launched in November last year.

The tender appears to be a backup in case of problems with the approval of class 4758 Talent 3 EMUs on order from Bombardier. Only four units have been given temporary approval for trials in regular passenger service, which is valid until February 28 2021. Just one of these units is currently in service, operating between Bludenz and Lindau.
