The extension runs in tunnel for its entire length and adds three new stations to Line M2: Szwedzka, Targówek Mieszkaniowy, and Trocka. The journey time between the line’s western terminus at Rondo Daszyńskiego and Trocka is 20 minutes.
The Zlotys 1.07bn ($US 270m) extension was financed by the European Union Cohesion Fund through the Operational Programme Infrastructure and Environment 2014-2020. The extension operates between 05.00 and 00.40 on Sunday - Thursday, with operating hours extended until 03.00 on Fridays and Saturdays.
Services on Line M2 are operated by a fleet of 20 six-car Inspiro trains supplied by Siemens and Newag.
The initial 6.1km section of Line M2 between Rondo Daszyńskiego and Dworzec Wileński opened in March 2015.
The 3.4km western extension from Rondo Daszyńskiego to Ksiecia Janusza is due to open next year.
Tendering began last year for a further 3.9km extension north from Trocka to Bródno and a 2km extension from Ksiecia Janusza to Wola Park and Powstańców Sląskich is also planned.
