CONSTRUCTION has started on the second phase of Taipei MRT’s Light Green Line from Zhonghe Senior High School to Huilong. The majority of the 13.3km line will be elevated, but a 2.84km section closest to central Taipei will be underground, including two stations.

According to local media, completion of the whole route, also known as the Wanda - Zhonghe - Shulin Line, is expected in 2031. The first phase, a 9.5km underground section from Chiang Kai-shek (CKS) Memorial Hall to Zhonge Senior High School and a branch to Juguang is currently under construction and is due to be completed next year.

The line will transition from underground to elevated track close to the Mingde Road junction. Once the whole line is finished, the journey time from the Shulin district to the core areas of Taipei and New Taipei will be reduced by 30 minutes, Mr Lee Cheng-an, head of New Taipei's Department of Rapid Transit Systems, told local media.

The new line, which will connect New Taipei's Tucheng, Shulin and Xinzhuang districts, will provide interchange with three other MRT lines: the Blue Line, Orange Line and Brown Line at Tucheng and Huilong stations.
