The 2.3km double-track electrified line branches off the Airport – Neufahrn line between Airport Visitor Park station and Neufahrn, crossing the A94 highway on a 184m-long steel bridge and curving northeast on an embankment to join the Munich – Regensburg line south of Pulling.

Construction began in October 2014 and the €91m project was financed jointly by the German federal government and the state of Bavaria.

From December 9, the airport will be served by hourly Munich - Regensburg Trans-Regional Airport Express (ÜFEX) services, which will be operated by DB Regio using Bombardier class 442 Talent 2 EMUs.

The opening of the new Neufahrn Curve will reduce the journey time between Regensburg and the airport to 1h 18min, compared with up to 1h 40min for the current trip by train and bus via Freising.
