The line will run from Tampere city centre to Sampola, where it will split into two branches to the University of Tampere and to the Hervanta area. The line will have 23-25 stops.
The project is structured as an alliance model with the client, engineers and contractors working jointly during execution. Development of the line will commence in July with Pöyry and VR Track responsible for all engineering during development and in the subsequent implementation phase. The city council is expected to decide whether to proceed with the project following the conclusion of development in August 2016, at which point VR Track and Yit will lead construction. The project is scheduled to conclude in two phases, first in 2019 and the complete project by 2023.
The entire project is estimated to cost €250m. The value of the contract with Tralli, which beat off competition from the Trala consortium, has not been disclosed. A separate tender will be issued for a contract to supply a fleet of 23 low-floor LRVs.
