Nagpur Metro awards CBTC contract to Siemens

SIEMENS has won a €40m contract to install communications-based train control (CBTC) on the initial two lines of the Nagpur metro in India.

Using its Trainguard MT system, Siemens will install CBTC on the two lines totalling 38.2km, at two depots, and in 23 three-car trains which will be supplied by CRRC, China. The system will be designed for 90-second headways with automatic train operation.

Construction of 12.1km of the 19.6km north-south Line 1 is already underway between the southern terminus at Khapri and Ajni Square in the city centre. The 18.6km east-west line will link Prajapati Nagar with Lokmanya Nagare.
