THE Czech Railway Administration has announced a consortium of Sudop Praha, Egis Rail, Mott MacDonald Czech Republic and Mott MacDonald as winners of a contract to design a 12km section of high-speed line to connect Prague Main Station with the planned national high-speed network.

The consortium will also design the construction of a fourth track between Prague-Běchovice and Prague-Libeň to increase freight capacity.

The line, which will connect with the high-speed line from Běchovice to Poříčany, will run through dense urban areas with the designers tasked with minimising the impact on surrounding neighbourhoods as well as integrating the line with existing urban plans. The contract includes a requirement to work closely with the districts and private investors so that the resulting design supports the further development of neighbourhoods in the vicinity of the route.

The new line will be used solely for passenger services, which will operate at up to 200km/h on the section, although this will be reduced in heavily populated areas.

The project also includes the design of Prague-Zahradní Město high-speed station, and a connection of the “Jahodnická spojka,” a short section of track to connect the lines from Prague-Malešice to Běchovice and Libeň.

Construction should start at the end of 2028.
