The vehicles are due to be delivered at the end of 2022 in time for the opening of the extension to Fyllingsdalen in 2022.

Each 42.1m-long bidirectional LRV will accommodate 280 passengers.

The first 9.8km phase of the network from the city centre to Nesttun opened in June 2010 with 12 five-section Variobahn trams. In July 2013 Bybanen exercised an option further eight seven-section vehicles together with the extension of the existing vehicles from five to seven sections. Stadler was also awarded a contract to maintain the fleet until 2026.
