DELHI Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has awarded Hill International a contract to provide project management services for Phase IV of the Delhi Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) project.

The contract covers the extension of metro Line 7 from Mukundpur to Maujpur, of Line 8 from Janakpuri to RK Ashram, and of Line 10 from Aerocity to Tughlakabad, representing a total of 65km.

A total of 27km will be underground, serving 18 new stations. The remaining 38km will be elevated with 27 stations. The extensions are intended to serve new housing districts in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR).

All stations on Phase IV will be equipped with platform screen doors for improved passenger safety. The MRTS project is being funded by the governments of India and Delhi, supported by a loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica).

Throughout construction, Hill will manage a range of activities for DMRC, including civil engineering on both elevated and underground sections.

The consultancy will also provide project management for the installation of signalling, telecommunications, the traction power supply system and the construction of rolling stock depots and an operations control centre.

“The project will serve a critical element of moving people in Delhi and overall it will serve India’s rapidly-growing demand for metro services in its major metropolis,” says Mr Waleed Abdel Fattah, regional president for Middle East and North Africa at Hill International.
