BRITAIN's Department for Transport has approved a £361m order with Hitachi Rail Europe for a fleet of 29 AT300 dual-mode 200km/h trains for operation by First Great Western (FGW) on services between London, Plymouth and Penzance.
FIRST Great Western (FGW) has selected Hitachi as preferred supplier for a contract to supply 29 bi-mode trains to replace the fleet High-Speed Trains (HSTs) currently used on services from London to Exeter, Plymouth and Penzance.
BRITAIN's Rolling Stock Strategy Steering Group (RSSSG) chaired by Mr Richard Brown has published its third annual update of its passenger rolling stock strategy for the next 30 years which calls for the national fleet to be expanded by between 52% and 99% to meet growing demand.
Train catering if it is done well has the ability to become a unique selling point for long-distance passenger operators, but it can also be an Achilles' heel if it is done badly.
