Bombardier unveils Flexity 2 LRV

IRJ - live at the UITP Congress in Vienna. Bombardier unveiled its new-generation low-floor LRV, the Flexity 2, at the UITP World Congress in Vienna today. Flexity 2 is a development of Bombardier´s successful Flexity LRV and incorporates a number of significant advances over its predecessor, including the Flexx Urban 3000 bogie, which allows the LRV to run on conventional wheelsets. The vehicle also features a redesigned cab and enhanced impact protection elements. This has resulted in a slight increase in axleload, although Bombardier says this does not limit the operational capabilities of the vehicle.

Siemens launches Airval peoplemover

IRJ - live at the UITP Congress in Vienna. Mr Hans-Jörg Grundmann, CEO of Siemens Mobility, and Mr Robert Lohr, president of Lohr Group, France, unveiled their new Airval fully-automated rubber-tyred peoplemover in Vienna. Airval is a modular system which can be supplied as a single car or in trains of up to six cars. This equates to a design capacity of between 1000 and 30,000 passengers/h/direction.

Flausch takes helm at UITP

IRJ - live at the UITP Congress in Vienna. THE International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has elected Mr Alain Flausch as its new president, succeeding Mr Roberto Cavalieri. Flausch is chief executive of Brussels, Belgium, public transport company Stib.

Siemens locomotives break Polish speed record

A NEW Polish rail speed record was set on May 29, when two Siemens ES64U4 electric locomotives reached 235km/h between Psary and Góra Vlodovska during a test run. The locomotives, which are owned by owned by Polish State Railways' (PKP) long-distance passenger division PKP Intercity, beat the previous record of 222km/h, which was also set by a locomotive-hauled train.
