Pesa wins first German contract

POLISH rolling stock manufacturer Pesa is celebrating its first ever German order after signing a contract on December 20 with Regentalbahn for a fleet of 12 two-car Link dmus.

Bombardier to build more electric trains for British operator

BRITAIN's Department for Transport is contributing £80m towards a £188m contract awarded to Bombardier for 130 emu cars to increase capacity on the commuter network operated by Southern. The new trains will start to enter service in December 2013.

Qingdao metro cars to have Alstom traction equipment

QINGDAO Metro, China, has placed a Euros 26m contract with Alstom and its Chinese joint venture Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment for Optonix traction equipment to power 144 cars being built by CSR Sifang for Line 3. Optonix is designed for the Chinese market and is fitted to trains operating on Line 13 of the Beijing metro.

RZD orders more Sapsan high-speed trains from Siemens

RUSSIAN Railways (RZD) has awarded a Euros 600m contract to Siemens to supply a second batch of eight 10-car Sapsan high-speed trains and to maintain them for 30 years. Delivery of the Velaro Rus trains, which will be built in Krefeld, Germany, will start in January 2014 and enable RZD to expand services on the Moscow - St Petersburg line where most of the existing trains operate.

NTV unveils Italo trains

ITALIAN open-access high-speed operator Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV) launched its new trains and services to the Italian and global media on December 13 at the new purpose-built maintenance depot in Nola, north west of Naples. NTV chairman Mr Luca Cordero di Montezemolo opened the event with a message from the Italian President welcoming the creation of the new company and the fact that it has created 2000 jobs, mostly in the economically depressed south of Italy.

VTG Rail, a subsidiary of VTG, Germany, has acquired SC Leasing, United States, a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corporation of America, and its 2000 freight wagons, doubling VTG Rail's North American customer base.
