IN-BRIEF - Financial: Amtrak awarded Metrolink contract; Hitachi partners with HyperloopTT; VTG places €746m in bonds
United States: Southern California passenger service Metrolink has awarded Amtrak a four-and-a-half-year contract to provide commuter rail services from January 1 2021 through to June 30 2025. As part of the contract, Amtrak will provide staff to operate Metrolink trains. Amtrak was selected from five proposals.

Hitachi announces purchase of Perpetuum
HITACHI, Japan, has announced plans to purchase British technology firm Perpetuum as part of plans to advance its digital maintenance capabilities. The deal is expected to be completed later this year, following approval by anti-trust authorities.

Bombardier wins Kanpur and Agra metro contracts
BOMBARDIER Transportation has won a Rupees 20.5bn ($US 274.8m) contract to supply 67 three-car metro trains, plus CBTC signalling and control systems, for metro projects in the Indian cities of Kanpur and Agra.

Alstom wins £642m British train refurbishment and maintenance contract
BRITAIN’s new operator of the West Coast Main Line, Avanti West Coast, has awarded Alstom a seven-year contract worth around £642m to refurbish and maintain the 56 electric Pendolino tilting trains which Alstom originally supplied in 2003.
