Hydrogen operation tested in the Netherlands
RAIL Adventure has delivered a two-car Alstom iLint hydrogen-powered train to Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, ahead of tests on the non-electrified line between Leeuwarden and Groningen, the first such trials in the country.

RSSB appoints Arup to study introduction of hydrogen trains in Britain
BRITAIN’s Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB) has appointed global engineering consultancy Arup to develop a ‘route map to enter service’ for hydrogen-powered trains on Britain’s mainline network.

SNCF aims for zero emissions by 2035
FRENCH National Railways (SNCF) has announced a plan to eliminate emissions - both greenhouse gases and particulates - by 2035 as part of its contribution to achieving France’s zero net emissions target in 2050. This is despite a 20% forecast increase in passenger and freight traffic in France by 2050.

British hydrogen train prototype approved for mainline testing
PORTERBROOK and the University of Birmingham’s Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) announced on June 20 that Britain’s first hydrogen train, HydroFlex, has received approval for mainline testing following a successful proof-of-concept.

RMV orders 27 hydrogen trains from Alstom
RHINE-MAIN Transport Authority (RMV) subsidiary Fahma has awarded Alstom and Infraserv Höchst a €500m contract to supply 27 hydrogen fuel cell Coradia iLint multiple units, which will replace diesel trains on four regional lines in the Taunus region north of Frankfurt-am-Main from 2022.
