At the end of 2014 Lyon public transport authority Sytral revealed details of its €1bn 2015-2020 investment plan, which aims to significantly increase system capacity over the next six years. Keith Barrow looks at how the city is seeking to build on the success of its existing light rail and metro networks.

ALSTOM has secured a five-year contract worth around €2m from Trensurb, the operator of the metro network in Porto Alegre, to provide preventive maintenance services for the 15 Metropolis trains it recently delivered for Line 1 as part of the FrotaPoa consortium with CAF Brazil.

CAF has reported a net profit of €80.5m for 2014, with 82% of its €1.44bn net turnover coming from international sales.

THE first of five ETR 452 Civity EMUs being supplied by CAF for the Bari suburban network was presented to Puglia regional councillor for mobility and transport Mr Giovanni Giannini, by the president of regional rail operator Ferrotramviaria Mrs Gloria Pasquini and by the company's general director Mr Massimo Nitti on December 19.

A CEREMONY was held at Houston's Downtown Transit Center on January 7 to mark the entry into passenger service of Houston MetroRail's new fleet of 39 H3 LRVs, which are being supplied by CAF USA.

CATALONIA Government Railways (FGC) is celebrating the entry of the first two of seven new three-car class 114 trains purchased from a CAF-Alstom consortium for its standard-gauge Barcelona Metro line L7, which runs 7km from Plaça Catalunya to Avinguda Tibidabo.

THE French city of St Etienne has selected CAF in a €42m contract to supply 16 LRVs for the city's 11.9km light rail network, which consists of three lines and 35 stations. The vehicles are scheduled for delivery in spring 2016.
