Metra unveils 2020 operating budget, along with capital improvements
CHICAGO commuter rail operator Metra has unveiled a proposed $US 827.4m operating budget for 2020 which will minimise the increase in expenses and not require a fare increase. The operator also outlined $US 480.5m in proposed capital spending, including major investments in locomotives and coaches, stations, bridges and yards.

Metra calls for new designs to replace double-deck coaches
CHICAGO commuter rail operator Metra issued a request for proposals (RFP) on March 20 for at least 200 new coaches, and has called on manufacturers to propose alternative designs that may address its needs better than the legacy double-deck gallery cars that have been used in Chicago for nearly 70 years.

Volkswagen emissions settlement funds new locomotives for Chicago’s Metra
ILLINOIS Environmental Protection Agency EPA announced on December 3 that funds from the US government’s multi-billion dollar settlement with Volkswagen for violations of the Clean Air Act will be used to fund the acquisition of low-emissions diesel locomotives for Chicago commuter rail operator Metra.
