Latvian EMU order finally signed
AFTER two failed procurements, and a tumultuous third tender, Latvian passenger operator Pasažieru Vilciens (PV) finally concluded a deal for the renewal of its EMU fleet on July 30, when it signed a €241.9m contract with Škoda Vagonka for 32 trains.

RB Rail awards technical design contract
THE RB Rail joint venture, which is responsible for implementing the Rail Baltica high-speed project linking Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, has selected a consortium of Spanish companies Ineco and Idom Consulting to deliver the design contract for the 56km section of the route which passes through the Latvian capital Riga.

LATVIA’s Privatisation Agency (PA) has requested that Latvian Railways (LDZ) board chairman Mr Edvins Bērziņš withdraw a statement alleging that the government is attempting to secretly privatise the state-owned railway, an act the PA says is designed deliberately to mislead the public.
