MTA reveals details of 2020 projects in 2020-24 Capital Plan

MTA issues request for proposals for up to 949 new metro cars
NEW York subway operator NYC Transit has issued a request for proposals (RFP) for up to 949 barrier-free metro cars equipped with CBTC to replace the aging R62 and R62A fleet, which entered service in the 1980s.

New York MTA approves $US 17bn 2020 budget
THE New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) board approved the agency’s $US 17bn 2020 budget and four-year financial plan on December 18, which includes a surplus between 2019 and 2021 but warns of a deficit in 2022 and 2023, which will worsen if the authority does not complete its transformation plan.

Train speeds could be increased on New York Subway according preliminary report
NEW York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) published preliminary findings from its Train Speed and Safety Task Force on October 8 which show that line speeds on some sections of the New York Subway could be increased by as much as 50%.

NEW York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) published its proposed $US 51.5bn 2020-2024 capital investment plan on September 16, which it describes “by far the highest in the MTA’s history, increasing spending on infrastructure by 70% over current levels.”

TRANSIT Tech Lab, a start-up accelerator programme run by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) and the Partnership for New York City (PFNYC), has selected passenger flow and capacity management company Veovo to carry out a one year pilot project to address crowded platforms on the New York Subway.

New York and New Jersey governors sign Gateway Program legislation
THE governor of New York State, Mr Andrew Cuomo, and New Jersey governor, Mr Phil Murphy, signed joint legislation on July 22 establishing the Gateway Development Commission (GDC) as a bi-state entity to develop the new Hudson Tunnel project.
