NSW government confirms $A 6.4bn commitment to Sydney Metro West

Sydney opens Australia’s first metro line
THE $A 8.3bn ($US 5.7bn) first stage of the Sydney Metro Northwest metro line between Tallawong and Chatswood opened on May 26, with around 140,000 people experiencing free travel for the day on the new service.

Contracts awarded for Parramatta Light Rail

$A 1.38bn Sydney Metro contract announced
THE New South Wales state government has awarded Systems Connect, an unincorporated joint venture between CPB Contractors and UGL, an $A 1.38bn ($US 998.2m) contract for major infrastructure works associated with the extension of the second stage of the Sydney Metro project from Chatswood to Bankstown.

NSW government awards Martin Place station re-development
THE state government of New South Wales (NSW) has awarded Macquarie Group a $A 378.6m ($US 271.6m) construction contract to design and build the largely underground station component of the new Martin Place Metro station in the centre of Sydney - including new underground pedestrian connections and improvements to public spaces.

First Waratah Series 2 EMU enters service in New South Wales
THE first of 24 eight-car Sydney Growth Trains (SGT), now also known as Waratah Series 2, entered passenger service on September 7. The SGT trains are being delivered by Downer as part of the New South Wales government’s $A 1.5bn ($US 1bn) ‘More Trains, More Services’ programme.
